Finding a restaurant for a family like ours with extremely diverse eating preferences and allergies is almost a comical task. Getting together with our family of 13 -- 3 celiacs, 6 with dairy sensitivities/allergies, 1 paleo, 1 vegan, the one person that needs ranch on everything, and the few normal eaters--can make dining out challenging. The steakhouse Guard and Grace provided the culinary common ground we needed for this special occasion together. Each of us were able to find something on the menu to meet our individual preferences and needs. At the end of the evening we walked away fat and happy and in agreement it was one of the best steak houses we've visited in Denver.
A fine dining establishment such as Guard and Grace has an experienced culinary team with the ability to make the necessary tweaks to certain items on the menu to make them gluten free, dairy free or specific to your needs. If you have food allergies you may be aware there is always a level of complexity and I recommend taking a look at the menu online previous to your visit. Get an idea of what you would like to order and formulate questions to ask your server when you arrive. With a group the size of ours, we called ahead to make sure there would be gluten and dairy free options as well as kid friendly options, so everyone could enjoy a great meal. Once we arrived, our server, Luke, was aware of our dietary needs and made sure the whole evening went smoothly. When it was time to order food we were assured the kitchen staff would take all the necessary precautions possible when preparing our dishes.
Hands down, I can see why Guard and Grace was voted best steak in Denver by 5280 for the last 2 years. We started the evening with the oak fired octopus and then I ordered the filet mignon flight with 3 -4oz filets consisting of a grassfed, prime and an angus filet. All were delicious, but the prime filet was my favorite. The vegetarian entree we ordered to share needed to be altered slightly to eliminate any gluten. They replaced the sweet potato pasta with oak fired butternut squash and the result was delicious. Beets are not one of my favorites, but damn, the beet root salad made me a beet believer. My husband was able to order the prime rib with a side of sautéed brussels sprouts (a decision he made in advance after looking at the menu online). The rest of the group ordered many other delicious items such as the tomahawk steak, a New York strip steak, the roasted chicken with hatch green chili sofritas, a lobster tail, and a 21 day aged rib eye.
Guard and Grace is a great option for an elegant night on the town, small holiday gatherings or if your looking for a restaurant that will be attentive to your gluten-free needs. Communicate any food allergies beforehand and G&G will be happy to assist you. The service, atmosphere and the food brought our whole food-challenged family together. If you have not experienced Guard and Grace, add it to the top of your list. You will most certainly be happy you did.

This is based on my experience and opinions. I do not claim any restaurant is entirely gluten free or allergen friendly, but in my experience many restaurants are willing to take the precautions necessary to accommodate your specific dietary needs when it is brought to their attention. You just have to ask.
